"Will you not constitute yourselves Knights of the Blind in this crusade against darkness?"
They responded, and Lions are now best known for their sight-related programs, including SightFirst, the world's largest blindness prevention program.

Hiroshi Takahashi who is an oculist and charter member of Kyoto West Lions club has been continuing the volunteer work of the ophthalmology department diagnosis and treatment for 45 years at nursing home

"45 years" is long as the period when the person can complete one's occupation.
The medical demands Advanced knowledge, the technology, and philanthropy in the much more. He is done a clinical medical treatment.
And He has been treating the ophthalmology department of nursing homes as a volunteer work of the Kyoto West Lionsclub Japan.
He will do it in March this year again.
He is a boast all Kyoto west lions club members, his behavior is a standard at the highest level.

We can not understand stress like any the medical treatment volunteer work for 45 years put on him. Moreover, there might be "Pleasure" in this activity as well as other volunteer works, too.
This time, when this contents were produced, I requested him to write essay.
I thougt we might be able to share the mind of this service by his essay.
However, he was declined to write by his modesty and aesthetics.
His sensibility might be not suitable for the Internet.
I read all the annual commemoration magazines and all publicize papers in the office for the clue.
I was surprised at few of publishing "Oculist volunteer".
Most description are about one-line "Oculist volunteer execution in xx day March at nursing homes". Also where is only one photograph.
As for it, also in the homepage the publishing was more little than the speech contest, rugby, and biotope.
The only article is this.
" Eight years have passed since we worked at nursing homes . " in which Dr.Takahashi wrote to club publicize paper "THE WEST" of the April 1970 is published again.
"Oculist volunteer" that had started when the club was formed 1963 was year eighth at this point.
This volunteer work continues for 45 years since biginnig, and the history of the boast has been updated.

Eight years have passed since we worked at nursing homes.

When I was nominated as one of the volunteers by the blind committee of the west lions club, I thought what to do of the content of the volunteer work . Even though it is my occupation.
Fortunately, I found one item "The eyesight protection movement is sponsored" in the eyesight preservation blind committee outline.
To aged people with poor eyesight in nursing homes,I thought that I wanted to apply eyewash the medicine that prevented the cataract progressing even a little.
Positive cooperation was received from the club member of the eye examination and applying eyewash Catarin. One step of service stepped forward.

It is time 10th May 1963.
From the result of the eye examination in Kenkou_en and the Arashiyama_ryo on that day.
The presentation ceremony of the Catarin applying eyewash medicine was held for the first time .
There were Kazama, Nakata, Morikawa, Itakura, Imaki, Ogawa, Yoshikawa, and me.
Grave ceremony and the touch of a peaceful mind with the eged each other is recalled dear yesterday.

In addition, it continued to this nursing homes in two places, the same service would be done to Mizoryou remote place in Ukyo, and here was visited for the first time
on February 2, 1964.
I drove in the cold wind on that day and the road of the snowfall with Kazama and Nakata.
However, it stalled because of the snow on the way.
The lions pushed the car all, and the pass was finally passed.

Those various memories exist.
Afterwards, the presentation of spectacles for the aged was added to one of the services.
16 medical examinations are continued until being executed under chairman Fujita on March 29 this year.
I wish sincerely to express my gratitude to the club member who cooperated to this small service until today.
Now I write this and turned over the medical memo eight years ago,
I feel as the volunteer is renewed and I feel responsibility as the member renewed.
I wish the Lionism give the light to a dark valley.
